Turning on the cable channel to watch Sky One I noticed E4 was currently on, showing as they always do, Big Brother. And suddenly something struck me – I had kicked the Big Brother habit.
It was going on write now; the contestants were in the house. I have no idea who they are though. I have no idea what is going on in there, what activities they have had them doing, I simply don’t know and best of all I don’t care.
I managed to avoid the launch show. That is the key thing. If you can take that first step, you are half way to quitting. The problem is once you start watching it. Soon you want to get the latest updates; you are watching BBLB (if it still exists this year) and you can’t turn away.
Big Brother used to be good – I was thinking about the reality TV shows and I think Channel 4 has actually been quite innovative. But that was like five years ago or something and I want to spin that out in another column. Now it’s just sad.
So take a leaf out of my book, go cold turkey, wean yourself from the need to watch the show. They are just random people who you don’t know nor ever will do again after this series is up.
