New things scare me, take note CBS

22 May 2005 17:35 pm

Bah! I’m not happy, CBS have announced their fall schedule and they have been clearing space for six new shows, cancelling quality dramas left, right and centre. Among those CBS have placed on the chopping block are Judging Amy and Joan of Arcadia.

First of all in terms of Joan it sucks that it got cancelled before I even got a chance to see it. In the UK, Living TV is hogging and there are two points about Living TV. Nobody has it and secondly, even if they did nobody would watch it. Too many shows I don’t get in to until after they have actually been cancelled.

Now for the meat on my attack – Judging Amy was awesome! I mean how many dramas there that are real quality are there around anymore? Six Feet Under, Sopranos (which is on its last series this year) there are a few but Judging Amy was special – it was a quality US drama not made by HBO.

And to make way for what? Ok, I can’t be totally hoarse there; they are apparently showing Two and a Half Men and a new Alyson Hannigan comedy. But that’s not the point – what is going to happen to Amy? Is she going to become a senator or what? You studios did this to Buffy and now you’ve come back for Amy!

The point is that do the new shows get any higher ratings than the existing ones? Take a leaf from Hollywood’s book – don’t take a chance on anything new, just rehash the same things over and over again. In this case it means keep existing series. Nobody likes new series!
