I'm still trying to work out whether there is an actual difference between X-Files: The Complete Series boxsets and X-Files series (M-Lock) versions other than the fact that the M-Lock versions are about a third of the price. The reason I suspect they're may be no difference is it wouldn't suprise me if M-Lock is some kind of con to get people to buy them while other people will be still be content to pay full price.
Anyway, so yeah X-Files series 1 is more open than I expected. While they may not talk about alien invasion plans as openly as they do in later series it is more open than I expected about the conspiracy. Another thing that suprised me was how much meat there is to this series though. I thought it would be a lot of setup and getting into it with the middle series being the ones with the really great self contained mystery episodes but series 1 has plenty on it's own.
The boxset comes with a seperate disk for the extras which include featurettes, deleted scenes, TV trailers and some other good stuff although commentary would have been cool.
Overall, it's a great series and it has enough extras to boot to make it a great boxset.
